Direct Drive, Zero Contact: SUPT Extends the MLCA U-Shaped Coreless Linear Motor Series

Suzhou Unite Precision Technology Co., Ltd. (SUPT Motion), a national high-tech manufacturer of voice coil motors, linear motors and precision linear motion platforms, has extended its MLCA U-shaped coreless linear motor series. The update adds new stator lengths, higher thrust density configurations and factory-matched feedback packages for equipment builders in semiconductor packaging, wafer inspection, laser processing and precision optical assembly who run continuous, high-duty-cycle production.

Based in Mudu Town, Wuzhong District, Suzhou, SUPT has been engineering direct-drive motion since 2005. The company invests continuously in coreless and iron-core linear motor development, backed by more than 30 patents and a technical team with over ten years of precision linear motion design experience.

Why a coreless architecture

In a U-shaped coreless motor the coil assembly contains no iron core, so the forcer has no cogging force and no magnetic attraction to the magnet track. For machine builders this translates into measurable gains on the production floor:

  • Zero cogging and zero attraction force — velocity ripple is reduced, so imaging, dispensing and marking stay consistent across the full stroke.
  • Low moving mass — acceleration up to 300G supports very short move-and-settle times.
  • No mechanical transmission — no ballscrew, belt, rack or gearbox, therefore no backlash, no wear debris and far less maintenance.
  • Excellent low-speed smoothness — essential for scanning inspection stages and fine optical adjustment.
  • Cleanroom friendly — a contact-free drivetrain generates no particles and runs quietly.
Performance envelope of the MLCA family
Parameter Capability Practical benefit
Peak thrust Up to 3000 N Handles heavier payloads without a second axis
Acceleration Up to 300G Shorter indexing time, higher throughput
Positioning accuracy 0.1–5 μm Meets wafer, die and optical inspection tolerances
Feedback Optical scale, magnetic scale, encoder Closed-loop control matched to the application
Cooling Natural, forced air, water-cooled plate Stable thermal behaviour in continuous duty
Structure options Single forcer, dual forcer, gantry, long-stroke splicing One platform family for many machine layouts
Where the series is being deployed

The U-shaped coreless platform sits between SUPT's voice coil motor range and its flat-plate linear motor range, and is frequently selected for:

  • Semiconductor equipment — wire bonders, die bonders, pick-and-place heads, wafer and probe inspection stages.
  • Laser processing — cutting, marking, welding and drilling gantries that need high traverse speed with low vibration.
  • Electronics manufacturing — dispensing, mounting, assembly and high-speed sorting.
  • Precision inspection — AOI platforms, dimensional measurement and dynamic optical scanning.
  • New energy equipment — lithium battery and photovoltaic handling, lamination and cell inspection lines.
A complete motion ecosystem, not a single component

Every MLCA motor can be delivered as part of a matched package: a dedicated linear motor driver with position, velocity and current loops; optical or magnetic scale feedback with read heads and signal converters; and a multi-axis controller supporting pulse, analogue, EtherCAT, CANopen, RS485 and Modbus interfaces. Builders who prefer a finished unit can order the same drivetrain as a single-axis module, an XY/XYZ platform or a dual-drive gantry module, complete with guide rails, limit switches, cable chain and mounting base.

From drawing to delivery in about three weeks

SUPT follows a nine-step customization process: requirement review, selection guidance, solution and drawing design, rapid sampling, production, full inspection, delivery, after-sales onboarding and long-term service. Custom thrust, stroke, winding, form factor, mounting holes, cable exit, sensor configuration and protection class are all available, and custom units typically ship in as little as three weeks.
